Olis Robotics began as BluHaptics in 2013 after Dr. Fredrik Ryden and a group of research students from the University of Washington decided to start up a company based on their efforts in developing innovative robot control technologies. The company initially focused on subsea operations for unexploded ordnance disposal for the U.S. Navy. However, the technology opportunities quickly expanded to include efforts for various commercial offshore energy partners operating subsea Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs); multiple space programs with NASA and a number of land-based applications. BluHaptics rebranded as Olis Robotics in 2018 after the strategic acquisition of the Machine Learning company, White Marsh Forests. Olis offices and lab space are located in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood.
